Valaida Snow in Switzerland

Trumpeter and singer Valaida Snow (1905–1956) spend most of the second half of the 1930s in Europe. In may 1937 she was in Zürich, Switzerland. where she visited the Swiss Collegians, a big band. The following is a page of the Collegian’s “studio book” , with wishes from Valaida. I will add more about the Collegians some time. But now I am going on a short holiday.

Click here to listen to Valaida singing and playing “I Got Rhythm” recorded in London on July 9, 1937. She’s accompanied by Johnny Claes (tp); Derek Neville (as/bars); Reggie Dare (ts); Gun Finlay (p);  Norman Brown (g) Louis Barreiro (b) and Ken Stewart (dr).  The record was released as british Parlophone F-1048.
