Memphis Soul (Vintage German TV)

Here is a quick one from the soulful and funky side of my interests.  I am sure Herr Wempe aka DJ Soulsonic – who once asked for more R’nB on this blog – will like it! .

On one of Otto Flückiger’s VHS cassettes I found a vintage 45 minutes TV production from Germany about Soul from Memphis made in 1979 (see comments section)

This TV feature is called “O mein Herz singe” (O, sing, my heart) and besides the strange german commentary (which, being of it’s time is rather paternalistic towards black music) features rare appearances of local luminaries like  Al Green, Rufus Thomas, The Bar Kays, Willy Mitchell, Con Funk Shun, Ron Williams, The Soul Children, Joyce Cobb, Denise La Salle, The Mount Vernon Baptist Choir.

leider kann man sich das Video in Deutschland nicht ansehen aufgrund des Gema-Streits mit YouTube.

  2. Seymour Riis Says:

I positively ID’d the year of this film as 1979. From the website of the production company:
Then, click on the box labeled 1979. Clips of the film will play.
